There are never any easy days in the Greater Howard County Club Lacrosse Conference, especially not in the Elite divisions.
The HOCO League is where the best teams in Maryland ball out during the spring with five different divisions, but the elite division is truly a couple cuts above. Making it to the final at any age group is considered to be a prestigious, impressive achievement. Winning one is incredible, but two? That's usually wishful thinking.
Team 91 Maryland had other ideas, though. Backed by game-winning goals from Brendan Millon and Eli Schaller, the 2024s and 25s both claimed one-goal wins in their championship games to sit atop the HOCO perch this spring.
"The HOCO League is ridiculous," 91 Maryland director and National Lacrosse Hall of Famer Mark Millon said. "It covers such a vast area with the top teams from Washington, D.C., Annapolis, Baltimore County and Howard County. We're incredibly proud that we put multiple teams in the finals of the highest divisions of the league."
The 24s blanked the Annapolis Hawks in the semifinals, 5-0, before taking on a powerful MadLax team that is quite possibly the nation's best at that age group. The 24s overcame an early 3-1 deficit with a 4-0 run and, after trading goals, came out on top 7-6.
The 25s weren't short on drama, either. In the semis, they took on an excellent Annapolis Hawks team that hadn't been defeated in a few years and had previously handed 91 Maryland a 15-6 loss in the regular season. Unfazed, the 25s reversed their fortunes with an 11-6 win, before Schaller's goal in the final sealed a 6-5 win over Bethesda.
Congratulations to Team 91 Maryland 2024 and 2025 on their impressive championship wins!
